Deleting mail with iPhone 5

According to the manual, you can delete mail by 1) tapping the trash icon if the message is open, or 2) swiping over the message title if the message is unopen and tapping Delete. However, 1) where is the trash icon? Do I have to just tap the "move this message" icon? Is there not a more direct way?

And 2) when I swipe over the message title, I get the Archive button, not the Delete button.
